E is for Egg Experiment! The Discovery room scientists began their journey with a question..."What happens when you egg in vinegar?" At afternoon meeting, we make our hypotheses and write them down so that we can observe and revisit them each day. Friends came up with some pretty thoughtful and accurate hypotheses!
Day One Observations.
After a weekend away, we check back in on Monday morning and observe several changes. The egg has changed color, it has less bubbles surrounding it and it definitely looks much different than a regular egg with a hard shell.
During morning meeting, we check in with our current observations and see if any of our hypotheses were correct. A lot of them were...we are definitely scientists!
Yikes! We go around the meeting space and give our experiment a little poke.
"It's squishy!"
"It's rubber!"
"EWWWW!!! It's smelly!"
And then...POP! Our egg shell has absorbed the vinegar and it has changed it into a fragile skin-like material.
The last step is comparing a regular eggshell to the one that has been submerged in vinegar.
"What are the similarities/differences?"
"Why do you think this experiment unfolded this way?"
"Were you on the right track with your hypothesis?"
