Flower Experiment - What Do Stems Do?

We begin our flower experiment with a question..."What do stems do?"

To find out, we place white carnations in colored water and wait for the magic to happen.

The first page in our observation booklets is our hypothesis and what we see right now.

F is for Friendship!

Yesterday's daily reflection:  "What makes someone a good friend?"

F is for Friendship necklaces!  Today, kiddos were invited to choose a friend in the classroom and make a necklace for them.  Not just any necklace, but one with their name on it.  Friends needed to find the appropriate name card, match the letters to their friend's name and then string the beads on.  What a great way to work on our letter recognition, matching lowercase to uppercase letters and to begin spelling names other than their own.  

Oh...and don't forget about all that amazing kindness, friendship and generosity!

 

F is for FUN!

During morning meeting, we revisit some of the items in our Sink or Float exploration and chat about the properties that make items either sink or float in water.  This was a rich conversation filled with all kinds of scientific words, ideas and reasoning.  Excellent work, scientists!

Friends from the public works office, start a giant snow pile for us.  We LOVE watching the tractor and the snow blower at work!

Who is the strongest kiddo that can hold up all of their friends?

It's a lot trickier than it looks, that's for sure!

Parker shares his walkie talkies with us for his show and tell and it leads into a great conversation about the universal distress signal SOS.  This is a great connection to the Magic Tree House book that we are reading right now, Tonight on the Titanic.  

It also gives us a fun opportunity to check out exactly how they work.
