B is for Beehive!  Logan creates a beehive with our translucent shapes on the overhead projector.

B is for Boats and Bears!  Friends notice that the color of the water looks different on the outside vs. when they put their hands in it.  

"Hey!  Wait a second!  My hands are blue inside the water!"

Blue water inside a red bin makes the water look purple.

And red water inside a yellow bin makes the water look orange.

Such a cool discovery!

We love using the animals with our big blocks this morning!  We start out by making homes for the animals and then soon, we kick them out and take over their territory.

Lots of non-fiction reading today during quiet choices!

Toothless (aka Crosby) colors and measure his own picture of Toothless.

We talk about how inches are a unit of measurement, that the paper is 8 (and a half) inches wide and 11 inches long and that 12 inches equals 1 foot.

Bird is the Word!

During rest time, I stumble upon Myles writing the alphabet.  Well, look at that!  Awesome work, Myles!

During morning meeting, we read the book I Hatched from our bin of bird books from Brownell library (say that 10 times fast!).  Ms. Juli recognizes the bird in the book as a killdeer so dig a little deeper to learn more.

We listen to the call of the killdeer...it has such a lovely chirpy little song.

And then we look it up in our bird dictionary.  Some friends even recognize the photos and say that they have seen these birds before!

"If you were a bird, what would you look like?"

What do you do with pumpkins that are too squishy to paint?  You bring them outside and smash them on the pavement of course!  And then you fill them with water, make mud and pumpkin soup and then plant the seeds in the garden.  Nothing goes to waste here at preschool!

We loved painting our pumpkins today!  We also loved drawing on them with Sharpies...ah, yes, permanent markers (aka the forbidden fruit!).
