Self Portraits

Our first round of self portraits are done!  What a great way to kick off our "All About Me" unit.  During this time we will celebrate everything that makes us similar and different from one another.  We are all unique and THAT is something to celebrate!

Today we read Be Who You Are by Todd Parr...one of our faves :)

Friends discover a caterpillar on the playground today during morning recess.  We love watching  it slink along the ground as we contemplate what it eats, where it sleeps and if it has a caterpillar Mom and Dad looking for him.  So caring and gentle our Discovery friends are!

Daily Reflections Begin!

Each day after rest time, we will offer a prompt or ask a riveting question for kiddos to answer.  They will often refer to the curriculum we're working on ("Draw a picture of your family"), things that we've seen or discussed throughout the day ("Today we saw a caterpillar on the playground.  If you were a caterpillar, which kind would you be?") or fun "hopes and dreams" questions such as "If you were a King or Queen, what would your castle look like?"  This is a great transition activity and allows children to use prompts to process and engage in ways that they may not otherwise think.  Keep an eye out for these awesome daily reflections near our Parent Board!

Community Building Continues

Friends help me to empty the sand table and refill it with cooking gear during morning free choice.  We bake cookies, cakes, pies and muffins...what a fun way to sneak in some great math work (counting, measuring, sorting, etc.).  

Happiest of birthdays to Lorelei and Sawyer (both September 8th :)...welcome to the FIVE club, friends!

To continue with our classroom community building, we read Zero and One by Kathryn Otoshi.  These books have very powerful messages that children naturally gravitate to and understand quite profoundly.  If you haven't checked them out, you may want to!

Thursday Thinking and Friday Fun!

Clara makes her Dad a birthday card and writes "Happy Birthday, Daddy!" on it.  Excellent work! And so thoughtful :)

Our classroom bucket is overflowing with some wonderful kind words and actions!  Check it out the next time that you're in the classroom...and ask your child what they contributed! 

TRAIN!!!!!!!

Sawyer, Emily, Raylan and Ernest make a basketball hoop during afternoon recess and play a rousing game of pass and shoot.  So fun!

Who doesn't love to paint with their hands?!?!?!  We love getting messy...and creative!

Friends work with the gears to make a working machine...such engineers!
